So I have had this black gravel from Top Fin (petsmart) in my 55 for about a month. Today I noticed that quite a bit of it is losing its color. This can't be good for my fish. They all appear healthy but who knows what the gravel paint is doing to them.

I like the look of the black gravel and would like to keep it. Does anyone know of a good brand that won't loose its paint and harm my fish?

How is Estes? I think Big Als sells it. Any other suggestions?

I'm not sure about the answer to your questions since I usually use the natural looking gravel but I have been thinking about adding some finer gravel to my tanks to allow my eels to dig a little easier. I will stay away from what you mentioned. Thanks!

Epoxy coated gravel does that over time. I prefer more natural substrates too. You could get a black sand or a soil substrate to get the color you desire.
