I have a bare bottom shrimp tank and I want to add black sand.
I have new never used sand I can put in the tank,or should I use the sand out of my fish tank?

Shrimp tank has been set up for about a week, water from my old tank was added to the new shrimp tank and a small sponge that I had sitting in one of my canister baskets.

Should I add the water from my fish tank after a water change to the new shrimp tank to help the new shrimp tank cycle?

the sponge from your filter is more beneficial to the tank than the water. So i would have to say that on wc just add clean water and allow the sponge to do the job. If the sponge has been running on the other tank then it will have the beneficial bacteria in it.
as for the sand, new sand should be fine, just make sure you wash it well to get rid of what small particals that you can if the tank is already stocked. If you want to add substrate from your current tank though, this could only help as that too contains beneficial bacteria. Just dont stock your tank too quickly as its such a new setup
