So I bought some mystery snails awhile back, and read up a little on them and I am pretty sure that I read that they lay their clutches above water.

well I have been seeing a ton of clutches on the sides of the tank, on plants, on everything and sure enough little tiny snails are hatching out of them, but they are underwater....
So what kind of snail lays clutches under water???

do you have any other visible snails other than your "mystery" snails? or do you have an image of your "mystery" snails? There are sevearl apple snail species that lay their clutches underwater.

Asolene Spixis or Marisas are sometimes sold as "mystery snails". They both lay eggs under water.
Marisas: http://images.google.com/images?gbv=2&hl=en&q=marisa+snail
Asolene Spixis: http://images.google.com/images?gbv=2&hl=en&q=spixi+snail

Those are the two apple snails ("mystery" snails) that I know of that lay eggs underwater. Others would be pond snails and ramshorns, but it's unlikely that someone sold you ponds or common ramshorns as "mystery" snails (or at least I hope, for your sake).

Cameras buried in a box somewhere, Ill try to find it after finals are over (ugh, week of doooom)

The egg clutches are about 1/4 of an inch in length, they are ovalish, with about 15-20 little eggs in each.
The snails are definitely not spixis, they may be marisas, but none of mine are as nicely colored as the ones on google, most are very dark, mottled brown, with pinkish flesh.

There are MTS's in the tank, but those give birth live right?

MTS are livebearers, correct. The Marisas lay large egg sacs judging from the pics I've seen.
