Why do I keep reading that veggies people give their shrimp and other inverts are first blanched? Why blanch them?

So they will sink and be softer for the inverts to consume..

i weigh my zuccini down by threading it onto a spoon (i saw this done) my snails wont touch anything that i cook. They just leave it to waste lol.

I'm thinking about getting one of those veggie clips. I wonder if that'll work.
I do not blanch them. I just weigh them down although the diffusas coming after it helps make matters better anyway due to their weight. Blanching would reduce the vitamins thus it's simply wasted.

Just get a baby carrot tie it to whatever you are trying to weigh down. The baby carrot should be heavy enough to sink the veggie you tied it to. Pretty much 2 veggies in one, instead of spending cash on a veggie clip or just using a rock.

I blanch tougher veggies so they don't have to sit in the tank as long for the snails to eat efficiently. I use plant weights or plastic chip clips to sink them.

I'm worried though about the metal in spoons, chip clips, etc. in my invert's tank. Am I being over anxious?

I have used a screw to wieght down my vegies befor I found out about blaching. I just crewed it into the vegie. worked real well to hold it down.

As long as it is stainless steel it is basically inert and will not do any harm.
