The discus are doing great except the pigeon blood. It stopped eating and passed away 2 days ago:cry:. I removed it from my tank 2 weeks ago and put it into a 10g QT. I had it eating for a week and then it stopped again. The water params were all normal and the tank temp was 86F. I tried lacing its food with some garlic to stimulate its appetite but that didnt work. I tried several other discus food,I gave him blood worms, brine shrimp and the other frozen food you suggested. My gf said that she will buy me another and I'm getting the discus a new tank for christmas and once thats up and established I'll be sending you an email about replacing my favorite discus.

You should tell her to bring a laptop so she can work in the fish room that way she could get more done:grinyes: or tell her that you would give her a fish or two if she gets your page up before the end of jan:evil_lol:.

Send me a PM about your testers. If I have enough money left over from christmas shopping I might pick one up.

As far as loosing fish it is all part of the hobby we lost a few last week to human error . (over feeding:devil:.) Iam not always around to make sure thing run smooth .

I tried that but she is like me very fussy , she is redesigning the entire website to make it more user friendly and installing new areas for breeders . With our ever-changing stock it is hard to get current pics so I am buying her a Nikon 300 so she can get good photos all these thing take time and once we are set up I should be able to update and maintain with relative ease.

As far as a 60 Hex I would say 4-5 depending on size. Discus do need room to swim . I believe Angels would be a better fit for a 60 Hex. It also depends on filtration and WC's along with decor.

hex's have weird foot prints..usually small for the gallonage
also keep in mind the smaller ones will need more care..since feeding them several times per day = water changes.
but it is doable with small (juvenile ) Discus.

We can always combine Discus with the Altums, I will have a steady supply of RS's since they spawn frequently and have a 90% fertilization rate.

I would love to sell you Discus , I am telling you this for your own peace of mind. You will not be able to keep 5 Adult discus in a 65 hex , these fish we have grow to 10"+ so you do the math , it would not be a suitable environment. you and your fish would be unhappy in the long run.

I would suggest getting a 55 if you have the room , I see 55's on Craigs list all the time in PA for $40.00 or less. Find one that needs repair and fix it . We buy all kinds of broken,leaky tanks for a few $ or free and repair. Local glass shops will be able to supply you with glass and silicone .

It all depends on maintenance, I keep 8 XL in a 55 bare bottom with a XP2 and a 300 marine land plus 4 to 5 sponge filters, I vac daily and change water 40-50%per week . I have a 125 with 17 LG to XL's heavily planted with 2 405"s and a sponge filter we do two Wc's weekly when we vac gravel.

I also keep up to 40 3" in a 40 Breeder but they get Daily Wc's and are not in the tank long enough to matter.


The key to Discus is GIN clear water and high protein food

I would say for all piratical purposes that a 55 is the minimum if you want to keep your fish happy a 75 would be much better.

It all depends on the knowledge of the keeper and their ability to preform the necessary maintenance.
