Hi all,
I was reading information on breeding shrimp and many of the sites quote a "generation" period. Can anyone explain to me what this development phase is specifically? I am assuming this is the development phase from juvenile to adult. Thank you for your help.

I've never heard of a "generation period".
Are you sure it wasn't "gestation period" rather? I believe that's basically the length of time between the bom-chika-wah-wahing to the birth of the babies.

Here is a link to the site I referenced:

In the breeding section, it states generation time.
For blue pearls, how big are the juvenilies? are they microscopic, or just smaller, paler versions of the adults?

The juvies are initially about this size -- or so, they are miniature versions of the adults. They grow quickly and within a few weeks are much more noticeable. Often the shrimp get better color as they mature past 1/2"

okay, so as I understand it; the female will carry the eggs for about three weeks. Once they "hatch" I should see a bunch of juvies. Right?

You may or may not see them initially as they tend to hide out. I usually start really seeing them about 2 weeks after they hatch.

I am thinking that generation time is the amount of time it takes the shrimp to reach maturity, and reproduce... 3-5 months...

I have to agree with Zigman. I can only imagine that it is the time from one generation to the next (from the copulation of one generation to the copulation of the next, or birth of one generation to birth of the next, etc)

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback.
