My impeller on my AC110 made that noise because I run Eco complete, any time it get disturbed the filter would suck up a bit of sand and freak out. It got trashed with the quickness, people praise AC filters. I think they are garbage. None of my other filters have any problem with the Eco or make any noise.

I used an AC 500 (now the 110 i believe) for two years, after I was done my mom used it on her turtle's winter tank for the past three years with no problem. I even dropped it during a massive cleaning once, shattered part of the spillway, used some sillicone to glue it back together and it still worked fine!
Only reason she got a new one was that the turtle kept rubbing the intake and trying to knock it out of the tank, her new filter has suction cups!

BUT... Sounds to me like the buzzing may be coming from inside the housing... I'd stop using it. Buzzing can be a sign of bad wires and it COULD start an electricial fire if that is the case.

It's definetly the propeller. I took it out, cleaned it. I plugged it in without the propeller, no noise, put the propeller in and it buzzes. And it does it at random, not a constant buzz.

I'd say for some reason or another the magnets in the motor and on the impeller aren't always connecting properly. Did you try using a pipe cleaner to clean out the impeller housing?

do you use sand as a substrate or have thin plants like moss? Mine makes noise anytime something foreign manages to make it up the intake. Usually inspecting the impeller and cleaning everything out really well quiets it down

have you tried looking for parts?

yea, good point, if you do end up figuring out what is wrong it's often pretty reasonable prices on replacement parts. I'd guess the impeller would be around $7-12

Yes, I use sand, which is what I figured it was, but I cleaned everything out and and still does it.
