Hey John,
I tried to PM you back after you PMed me, but the system says you aren't able to receive PMs, which was pretty confusing. Anyway, to answer your question, the skimmer is made for either sump or hang on and will work great on a tank of 25-75g (although it's rated at 65). The included directions show you how to set it up for either application. :)
