Would those cheap 4-5 foot fluorecent shop light fixtures with two bulbs be good for cichlids in a 5 foot long tank with no plants?
How much are they?

Yes...they would be fine...In fact, they would probably be a little more light than needed.
FYI, I just picked up a 4 foot shop light at Lowe's that has two bulbs for like 8 bucks. That's without the bulbs. If you aren't doing plants, just get the cheap bulbs....

how long should i get? would 4 feet be good or 5 feet?

You aren't going to find a 5 foot fixture, so 4 foot will do. You really shouldn't notice the little bit of light difference on the ends. It will only be 6 inches on each side that doesn't have light over it....
