I'd like to start a 10 gallon tank for my Assasin snails, and plan on using a couple of those foam filters which connect to an air pump. Can the foam be covered with gravel? I'd like the tank to look as natural as possible.

I would think that covering the foam with gravel would in essence make the gravel part of the filtration and cause debris to be caught in it. This may give a headache when trying to clean the tank.
