View Full Version : Proper housing for invasive snails?

I've been thinking about exactly how to keep any smaller snails contained. The big snails won't be a big deal, just keep the holes in aquarium tops covered so that they can't escape. However, I just found someone who I might be able to get a clutch from, and I'm wondering what would be the best way to contain smaller snails. I was thinking about getting one of those huge clear Sterilite tubs and duct taping the lid on (to keep the sides from being escape routes, then making a hatch/hinged hole that I can either make the "door" with the plastic canvas and somehow make the sides of the door escape-proof. Anyone have any ideas on how to "build" a container like this? Any ideas on whether or not baby haustrums or canas can escape through standard plastic canvas? I plan to cull out the majority of them, because as of right now I don't plan on selling any (if I do, I plan to have a screening process and applications, so I don't think I'll sell very many at all, lol), but I still want to make sure that they don't escape as young babies. Even though they probably won't make it anywhere, I do not want to take any chances. So... any help or advice? Thanks guys. :)

Well, I don't have to worry about that clutch. The guy wasn't even from the US, let alone Pennsylvania... Not sure why he was on a small local classifieds in the first place. :/ Still, I'd be interested in how other people keep their invasive species. I haven't worried much about the spixis, since they stay under the water, but I'm curious if people are anal about the other species or not.

I have plexi glass lids with holes drilled for the airline to the sponge filters and for the heater cords, etc.
