i was at my neighbours today and just happened to go see his tanks! :D he had a 55 with approx. 20 blue convicts and a firemouth :lipssealedsmilie: and to make matters worth the only filtration he had was a penguin 350(i believe that the model number) he said there was a spawn every few days or so, so i figurew when i get a good sized tank i might steal some of them off him as he said i could as many as i needed :D lol interesting day
a spawn every few days or so? hopefully most of them get eaten! :D

every flew days meas he has a ton of breeding going on. The tank is way over-crowded!
Turnover ratio is 6X an hour which is good but he still has too many fish. He needs to cut it in half.

That's why you need to own pets that will eat the babies. :D

Be careful how many you take from friends (ahem Vicious_Fish) or you will soon be over run with convicts as well. They will pretty much breed no matter what.
They are cool little fish though. I hope you enjoy them.

Hey I gave you and sploke those fish with good intentions! They were suppose to be Alligator Snapping Turtle food.

Yeah I would really forgo getting convicts, unless you get only 1 or are 100% sure you have only one gender, or if you have big fish that will eat all the babies they will inevitably produce. Otherwise you'll be overrun very soon and have an overstocked tank just like your neighbor - I bet he started with only a few and the population exploded, even with the grown cons and FM eating many of the fry, some will manage to escape and survive.

Don't worry Avatar all but 2 of them have gone to a LFS! The two remaining are 2 females I kept on purpose as they still had fry to care for. Very soon those fry will be in a new home.

what exactly are his "blue convicts"? traditionally those are convict/honduran red point hybrids.
but, i know how the guy feels. i have about 50 honduran red points i want to get rid of, and about 25 of them are in one 55g tank. it's making me crazy. i'm fighting the urge to go all "angel of death" on them and stick 'em in the freezer. i know that sounds really really bad, but they are in no way living a good or healthy life, and i just can't find anyone who wants them locally. it's been over 6 months, and i've only managed to find homes for about 15 of them.
