I avoided the ultimate crime in fish keeping today....the impulse buy.
while at the lfs looking around...what do my eyes find...do they deceive me....nope....hillstream loaches! Never ever seen them in a pet store. wowsers! labeled borneo sucker. Think the price tag was 6 but can't remember.
Knowing that I need a fast moving current, I couldn't get them. so...i politely passed. darn!

Yes, I bet so too, but before purchase, not after. Kudos James! Now get that river tank set up!

Started researching last night. Have a couple empties lying around. I was saving one for brackish for bumble bee's and flounder. Sounds like the other could be a river tank. ;o)
Do it, James! Add nerite snails in there for fun.:) You can start massive algae culture for both hillies and nerites.

Good job..though more proper action would have been to buy a tank while there and a powerhead..lol...

What I did when we had our shop was to put stones outside with a planttab in the water and let the algae grow. I would then swap the rocks out when they had no more food on them.
Do add a powerhead for them as they do like an ultra strong current. One of my customers kept a school of White Clouds with his since they like some movement as well and are peaceful .

Do your research first... I think they prefer cooler water in addition to some current.

I've yet to get my gastromyzons to eat anything that I offer, though I know others have. They constantly graze on tank algae and the organisms that grow with it. I'd definitely suggest an aged tank with a good growth of algae before you get them, I have seen them starve to death in my LFS. I think nerites could be too much competition for their algae unless you really have a bumper crop.
