Learned two lessons about my fluval 404 tonight

So the flow looked low on my fluval 404 and i was getting a sporadic rush of air sound. I took it out and checked the filter media and cleaned the sponge filter pads and put it all back together and topped off the tank.

Lesson #1
Always double check that the latches and oring have functioned smoothly and latched / sealed.

Lesson #2
Never, Ever leave for 2 1/2 hours only 10 minutes after doing filter maintenance...

or you just might leak roughly 5 gallons of water down through the bottom of the stand, the carpet, the floor and drip into the basement... :(

After cleaning up what i could, minus the underside of the tank frame under the wood bottom..... I reseated it carefully and we have dryness......

5 gallons is a lot of water... :headshake2:

I just purcahsed 3 fluval 404's for 210 bux.. I hooked the first one up today, and so far I really like the flow it puts out..

Ditto, I learned on my magnum 350 also. Luckily that was in the basement. I try and be extra careful about working on my fluval 205 upstairs

I learned that lession but without the water mess. I've forgotten to add a part to a canister after cleaning it right before work. Got lucky I had to go back inside and get something and noticed the weird rushing noise.

I havn't had that problem but I have forgotten to close the QD on my magnum before disconnecting the lines. You would think the first time would learn me, no I go and do it at least 2 more times.

I have forgotten to put the O-ring back on my magnum a few times, however I always top off the water so I'm not getting a water fall sound. Thankfully when I do that, I notice that the O-Ring aint sealing right for some reason.

I've gotten in the habit of placing small dishpans under my canisters. Not really pretty, but keeping a small leak off the floor is worth it.

There was a horror tale around here somewhere about I think someone's 5-6 year old helping with the fish duties and removing the output hose while the canister was on. not a happy thought.

Isn't there a device used for laundry room floors that is hooked into a power source(kind of a power strip thing) and when-or if it feels water it trips the power and turns off the pump?

Ya...I learned that with my Eheim 2213. Never over tighten the suction side hose connection. I cracked the thread on the inside and left it for about half a day. I noticed that there was some unusual splashing in my tank, meaning the water level went down. It must have spilled 3-4 gallons on the carpet. I had to re-order the whole housing for it. I now keep it in a 5 gallon bucked just for precaution.
