I need to get floating veggies to the bottom of my shrimp tank but I don't want to stick my hands in the water every time I do it. So I don't think a suction cup veggie clip thing would work. And I can't use metal because I'm afraid of them getting poisoned by metal (in case you don't know, inverts are sensitive).

And I don't want to blanch their veggies and fruit.

I know I'm picky and difficult but does anyone have any ideas?

Kinda low tech ugly but it's workin' for me so far. I have a bunch of stainless steel BBQ skewers for kabobs and a bunch of zuchini and cucumber lovin' plecos.

I skewer their snacks and stick it vertically down in the substrate and just let the handle rest in the tank corner. Plecos are sometimes munchin' on the bottom while the Koi snack on top. The bigger fish often pull it over so I started using airline suction cups to try and secure the top. Just did it last night for the 1st time & it seems to have worked so far.

Don't skewer the veggies thru the middle, go for the meat closer to the rind, they stay where ya put 'em better and it's easier to retreive when their done. Looks like crap but it's workin' so far.

Tie it to a rock, but won't you'll get wet taking out the uneaten portions no matter what you use.

I use a stainless spoon. I spear the veggies through the handle part and tie the spoon with fishing line. The end of the line lets me drop it in slowly and retrieve it without getting my hands in. Using a spoon instead of a fork also keeps me from worrying that they will get poked.

I use a plastic chip clip and tie a string/fishing line to it.

I use a aquarium plant weight. It clamps around and shapes to any food and I guess you can tie it to fishing line or thread also.

we use plastic chip clips on fishing line just like Jinxy said, they are also weighted down with tablecloth weights - they're inexpensive and plastic coated so nothing hurts the fish!

Depending on how deep your tank is, to remove the uneaten portion you cav purchase a set of tongs like you use in the kitchen, or you can get the ones specifically for aquarium use in varying sizes..:) Or, just use a net...

I use a fork, or plastic chip clips...
inverts are copper sensitive, shouldnt be any copper in a chip clip..

I use a veggie clip weighted with plant weights with dental floss tied on for dry retrieval (no wax or flavor) Or just plant weight through the veg & floss tied to the plant weight.
