View Full Version : Is it ok to remove my air bubbler?

Just wondering if the combo. of plants and 2 HOB filters running will produce enough O2 for my fish to be healthy. I have never had a tank w/out an air bubbler, so i am a little anxious about doing this. I think it would work, just need some reassurance before i do it.

The current stock is:

4" banjo catfish
2" flame gourami (shouldn't be a problem for this one)
No more than 3-4 adult guppies at a time, w/ the accational fry.
2" pleco...which will move to a larger tank after a few more inches.

If i add any other fish in the future, chances are it will be another labyrinth. So that shouldn't effect the O2 usage much.

Here is a pic, this may be helpful..or not. Thanks!

I guess i will try it, and if i notice anything suspicious i will put it back in. Anyone can still give me there opinion, especially if its a bad idea!

btw, where is the link that allows you to search through all the posts? i seem to have forgoten where it was. thanks

Air bubbler, cute :) Well, this is how I judge it, is all the water moving on the surface? Or are there spots without surface agitation? I have a powerhead instead of an air pump in one tank and I have the outtake of my fluval 203 in another. If you observe your fish you can see what it prefers.

hey, it bubbles air!!:D

From the 2 filters combined, i would say around 90-95% of the surface is affected by ripples. There are a few places that are disturbed. But, as i have seen when feeding, there is a current on 100% of the surface.(or close to it) Sound safe to try in your opinion?

I plan on buying some of those cheap bulbs from wal-mart to put along the right side where the air stone was. I guess the guppies will have to swim in that instead of the bubbles when they play or whatever they were doing.

thanks

*just read your post AFG. man i really need to lay of the ****! thanks for pointing that out though.*

The fish look like they prefer having an air pump in the tank but it doesn't cause any harm. So it really depends on if you care if your fish are "happy" or going to live? lol, I sound so pro-fish rights and I'm writing a debate on why "animals should not have basic entrenched rights" Phew, hard stuff!

Yeah, I guess your right. It wasn't bothering me or anything. I will just leave it in there for now. It's bad enough I have them trapped inside a glass box and stare at them, I guess I'll let them have some form of entertainment.;)

thanks for the input, its always appreciated.

Thanks for starting this thread Simon, gives more input on my topic! I think my tank has complete surface agitation I will have to check that though.

Check out my response to your 20 gallon tankmates thread.
