I recently picked up a 40 long off of Craigslist for $25. It was supposed to be a 55, but when I arrived to pick it up I found it was a 40. No big deal really, just not as good a deal. The middle plastic brace was broken and the guy didn't want to bother with fixing it. It isn't necessary on the tank for support, but I fixed it for aesthetic reasons in a about 10 minutes with some super glue.

Tonight, I put a couple pieces of self-sinking driftwood in in and two 5 gallon buckets of Eco-Complete and natural gravel that looks like crushed pecan shells. This mixture was in my old planted tank and has been kept wet since I tore the tank down. I plan to fill it tomorrow.

I ordered
CO2 Reactor 500

from Drs. Foster and Smith, since I've been wanting to give it a try with my pressurized CO2.

I'm waiting on a new low pressure gauge to arrive from Rex, since I knocked over the CO2 cylinder and bonked the gauge on the floor and broke it.

If I can locate my camera, I'll take a pic before I fill it tomorrow and afterwards.

I have a bunch of SAEs that will go in the tank. I'll probably move my angels to the tank since I'm not doing much with them any more and lost most of my brood stock to some unknown problem.

The tank will have 3 shop lights on top for now. I never had any problems with this amount of light. 240 / 40 = 6 wpg, so l think all will be well.

Filtration will be an Aquaclear 110. Heating with a Stealth heater. Dry ferts from Rex.

Just have to build the light box to contain the stray light, do a water change, and hookup the CO2. I have to wait for the new low pressure gauge and my shipment from Drs. Foster and Smith to arrive for the latter.

8 angels, 7 true SAEs, and the lone rasbora het.

Excuse the blinding stray light, but here's a pic.

I moved the 4 yoyo loaches and unknown 5" pleco from the 90 where the angels were into the tank to free up the 90. Added another piece of driftwood from that tank as well.

I cleaned up and cut the plants that were in the Endler's/RCS tank and planted them in the 40 long, installed the CO2 Reactor 500, and turned on the CO2 solenoid. All that's left to do, other than get more plants, is to build the box to contain the light and direct it into the tank.

I added 4 black tetras that I acquired with a free 10 gallon tank.

I have a few recommendations;
Move the Reactor closer to the bottom of the tank to allow for better C02 distribution throughout, add a pre-filter to your AC intake, add a flow deflector in front of the AC output. Aesthetically a background would be good.

Thought about that with the reactor, so thanks for the confirmation.

I'm removing the Aquaclear 110 and putting my xP3 canister on it to eliminate surface degassing.

One day I'll get around to putting backgrounds on all my tanks. I've just been too busy with other things to remember to do it.
