I have researched other posts, yet am still not sure as to the recommended dosage of Maracyn to treat bluegreen slime algae. I have a box of 250 mg packets by Mardel. They recommend 1 packet/10 gallons for disease treatment. Would this be about right for treating the bluegreen algae? And for how many days?
My tank has always had 0 nitrates until I began supplementing N with Kent's ProPlant. Now it's been at 8-10 ppm for several weeks and I plan to keep it there, which hopefully will prevent a reoccurence.
Thanks for the help.

follow the exact directions on the box. If your tank is large you can reduce the gallon size so you will only have to use 1-2 packets a day. Do it until you see the algae die off then do a big water change and gravel vac to suck it all up.

Many worry that the erythromycin will kill off their bio filter.. but if you following the dose on the box and not go over you should be fine (i know box doesnt say anything about BGA)

Also make sure to add an airstone in the tank (if you got fish in there)
Another thing you can do is do a 2-3 day blackout while you are doing the erythro treatment since BGA needs light to survive.

I have used Maracyn in the past to kill BGA. I just followed the directions on the package and it worked.... however, if you aren't able to address the issues causing the BGA, it is likely that it will come back. I did notice that it affected the bio filter in the tank I was treating, but it's not a huge deal as long as you test daily and be prepared to change some water if you have to. The bio filter will bounce back quickly IME.
