I've got a 125 gallon setup with discus and cardinals, live plants, CO2 and T5 lighting.
I've always kept my discus school small, generally about 4, with a school of about 30 cardinals. I want to build up my school of discus to around a dozen. I've been running an Eheim Professional II with the heating element in the bottom of the canister. Is this enough filtration for a 125? I suppose it depends on my other maintenance, but I try to do 20% water changes twice a week. My water alway looks pretty clear.
I have no problem adding more filtration, but what would work well with my Eheim canister?

Also, do cherry shrimp generally do ok in a discus tank? I tried them a few years ago, I had plenty of driftwood and plants for them to hide in, but they eventually disappeared, probably got ate.

You did not state the size of the filter.By itself it will not provide enough oxygen.I see you added more already.Have you got an airstone running.Ideally they should be breathing around 60 times per minute when they are settled in.

Actually I havent added more filtration yet, Im wondering what if anything I should add. Im looking for ideas.

The Eheim Professional 2128 is rated for aquariums up to 160 gallons.
I do not have an airstone running, I was always told to minimize surface agitation so the CO2 wouldnt dissipate so fast.
Maybe thats no longer true???

Brad I believe in the more filtration the better, on my 55 corner Tank I use 2 magnum 330 and a fluval which is enough to cycle your current tank nearly twice .............on my 75 gallon I use Fluvall Fx5 which realy love great filter plenty of movement and I also use a large aquaclear bio wheel.

Just my thoughts .
