I went on vacation, the guy watching our house accidentally popped a breaker, long story short, he didn't know it was the tank circuit, and a week later and no bubbles or filtration on my 30 gallon (had a big whisper 30-60 and a millennium) that had my electric blue and my pleco (blue was 4.5" pleco was about 6") both were done. he wasn't responsible for the tank, as it was on an auto feeder, besides, whats done is done.:(

I'm thinking of doing a "polite"(not aggressive) colorful fish tank, I have to wait until after the holidays, because I went ahead and drained the tank and I'm going to setup a canister filter so I can replace the hood and keep the lid tight and reduce evap. I am also running the air hose to the basement so they are on separate circuits, plus it will be quieter!)

I'm really wanting to go with a light stocking of some pretty schooling fish that will get along. not sure where to go with it. I would like to go with those fish, some kind of focal fish, and maybe a bottom fish/sucker.(miss my pleco)

any ideas?

hillstream loaches? they look like a lot of fun and i think you can place congo tetras with them

:( Sorry for your loss, ryf. :tombstone:

Hillstream loaches require a different kind of setup than tropicals... they prefer cooler water and need a TON of flow to thrive.

Congo tetras are great fish, but IMO grow too large and are too active for a 30 gallon.

How about Bolivian rams or pearl gouramis as your centerpiece fish, and you could add a nice school of 8-10 tetras like lemon, cardinal (more challenging to keep), Von Rio, etc. If you can find green fire tetras in your area, you might like those too. For your bottom feeders, a group of 6 corydoras would be nice IMO. Or, if you prefer a pleco, skip the corys and add a small pleco like a clown, rubberlip, or bristlenose.

I like the sound of the tetras, unfortunately, upon cleaning out the tank, the seals are starting to bubble on the bottom, so I will have to reseal, perhaps the loss of fish has the bonus of "at least my house didn't get a flood"(silver lining)

looks like it will be February before I'm fishy again.

Ive gotta say I love my rummys since getting them so I'd have to recommend them.. Beauiful colors and the best schooling fish IMO.. Maybe some pearl gourami or blue rams aswell..couple corys...
