Cloudy water...

Well...

Last night, I did a ~75% water change on Fred's 2.5g. I removed 3 of the larger rocks and replaced them with a hunk of driftwood that used to be in my 15g and is pre-soaked. I also added 2 java fern plantlets from Rojo's bowl. Additionally, I rigged a lighting system by putting a little desk lamp on a 'plank' and setting it on top of the tank. This morning, the water looked a bit foggy but I thought nothing of it. Now, the water looks a little more cloudy, but you can only really see it in the back (because it's darker due to the position of the light). Plus, if I look hard, I can see these little white wormy things on the glass towards the top of the tank. What's going on?

does your tank smell at all? ammonia smells vaguely urine-like. nitrites smell like feet. nitrates make your water smell swampy and green...

if you just cleaned it, it makes me think bacterial bloom. that would make the water a cloudy whitish color. algae will be greenish and could be remedied by moving your desk lamp.

how long has your tank been set up? do you know your water parameters? what kind of filtration is on the tank?

I agree. If it's white cloudiness it's probably a bacterial bloom, either from stirring up the gravel or excessive cleaning of filters/ gravel/ bacteria harbors. If it's green cloudiness it's likely an algae bloom, though I'd think you'd have experienced this before.

It would be a good idea to monitor your ammonia and nitrites right now. You might need to do some daily water changes to keep the ammonia from becoming lethal, especially in a tank so small.
 
idk params, I'll do a test ASAP but I'm kind of busy right now & it may have to be tomorrow. Sounds like a bacterial bloom from what you said- the water is a whit-ish foggy. Tomorrow I'll do a water change, just don't have the time now. Fred seems to be staking it out. (He's a tough fish.. lol... he braved a bowl for almost 4 years, and he finally got his own tank. I also need to start fixing up his tail, as it seems almost 'eroded'.)
