i am going to build a hood for my 29, i plan on using a 2 bulb, 24" strip light from "LOWES" with 2 aquarium & plant bulbs. i already have a glass top. will this work for a planted tank ? if not what options would you suggest ?:help:

true, but they make it easier for algae to grow for some reason... but it does make up for it in costs... make sure you use the right K value(5000-6000 for best results in FW tanks[10000 if you like the hi-tech look at the cost of SLOW growing plants]) if you're looking for a certain look for your aquarium

oh yes, i forgot... you can mount them onto pieces of wood with aluminum foil on top of the pieces... then glue(or screw, nail) some pieces to the side... basically a half-box made of wood with aluminum glued to it... lol...

Where are you getting this information? It contradicts most of everything I've ever read about planted tanks. I'd like to see something to back this "cost of SLOW growing plants" up.

Look for full spectrum bulbs.. in the 6000-7000K range (Daylight bulbs)
If you are getting a ton of algae, then dont leave the lights on for so long every day, usuallly 10 hours or so is fine, more than that and algae starts to grow, unless you plan on running pressurized co2, and dosing ferts to combat any algae growth.
