I received a FLUVAL OSAKA 155 Bent Glass Aquarium (41 US gal) for Christmas. It measures 24" wide x 24" tall x 18" deep and it came with a Flval 205 Canister Filter, 150 W heater, and a suspended lighting system.

I have a 55 gal. community tank made up of 6 angel fish, 7 black skirt tetras, 4 cory cats & 2 gold algae eaters.

I would like to make the new tank a cichlid tank and I like the looks of the Ps. Saulosi but I'm not sure if they would work in this size of tank. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am looking for "color".

If Saulosi's won't work, please give me alternatives. I do like the looks of Yellow Tail Acie, Demasoni & Kingsizei. I will most likely end up ordering most online as our lfs has limited stock.

Since I am planning on stocking some type of cichlids I was planning on buying from Dr Fosters & Smith some Eco-Complete African Cichlid Substrate. Probably the gravel not the sand. Does that sound like a good option? I will also be putting in some rocks. Should I buy a specific kind (where?) or can I take some from our rock pile?

Thank you for any and all help. I just want to do this right the first time!

Saulosi will do nicely in this tank i would do 1 male / 3 females and add 4 to 5 acei's as well would make a sweet looking tank..

As for rocks your plain old outside rocks will be fine as long as you properly wash them and arrange them in an order to provide retreats from aggression, as for types of rocks i love the Texas Holey Rock look and is what i have in my 55gal, that substrate echo complete is some good stuff from what i have read on-line and i may use it the next time around as well..

Good luck my friend..

Thanks. Do I need bottom dwellers? How about a pleco?

I wouldn't put anything in with mbuna. They have been known to kill and at the very least remove the eyes from plecos. Just my opinion.

No worries buddy anytime, plecos are a debatable issue i have used them with no ill effects and so have many others, i would stir clear of the larger specimens and if you do one do the bristelnose plecos they retain a smaller size..

Your best bet would be to go with a Synodontis catfish one that stays fairly small an example would be Synodontis Multipunctatus their max size is 6" so you could add 3 in that size of tank..

Good luck my friend..
