I got this plant from my LFS (Petco), because unlike all the other plants in there, it looked like it was in really good shape. It has a lot of good leave, and an excellent root system.

I've been trying to find out the light requirements for it. So far I've found that it likes a nutrient rich substrate. I've seen suggested light requirements from low to high. I have a 10 gallon tank with 2x 10 watt daylight compact florescents.

Good! I really like how it looks, but I was afraid that I didn't have enough light.

Thanks

If those are the spiral CFL, I would up the bulbs to the 23/26watt versions. Spirals lose alot of light due to restrike and ineffecient reflectors.

is that the petco in mankato?????

At the time I got them (from the local Ace Hardware), all they had were 10 watt daylight bulbs. All the others were "Soft White". I have not been to Menards or Home Depot to get some more.

The other problem is that 10 is the largest size that fits well. I was using 14 watt spirals, the soft white kind before I got the daylight bulbs, and they were pushing on the plexiglass cover and the top of the hood. It made the hood (metal) too hot to touch. The 10 watts fit with about 1/4-1/2 in clearance on both top and bottom.

Yeah height is issue for me too, so I use tubing or wood strips to give my lights another 1/4" clearance so the bulbs dont rest on the glass covers.

I thought about doing that, but it didn't solve the problem of the light bulb heating up the top of the hood. The way the bulb sockets are attached, there is no way to bend them down. The are attached to a 1 inch by 1/4 in metal bar, and its turned so I could bend it front to back in the hood, but not up and down.
