nice fish but it looks alittle crowded in there, hope you have plans for a bigger setup cause all the fish get huge. the arowana looks great.

If you get a 400g, I'd put the arowana in there with maybe another arowana, a pleco and the balas. That would make for a very nice setup, indeed. I'd leave all the Oscars and one pleco in the 150.

Was thinkin I'd take 1 pleco, Big Dog, the arowana, and 1 bala, in this tank and put the oscars and the rest in the new tank. Those oscars are gonna get huge. their only 6 months old and already 8 and 10 inches long.

That arowana will get much bigger than any of those oscars;)

Wow I am surprised that is a 150 gallon tank I was expecting to see one that is pretty long. What are the dimensions of it? That's pretty tall. You don't have any problems with the balas in there?

I'll keep that in mind Slappy.

It's 48 wide, 36 tall and 24 deep. Roughly. Got it at Petsmart. It's a bit#%in tank!! I love it but the maintenance is a pain. Lotta tank there. Gettin primed for the 400 g.

By the way the balas are fine. Kindda gross, they eat the oscars crap. But heck, keeps the tank clean.

haha it looks like a 10 gallon because the fish are so damned big and there are no worldy objects for a size comparason! that araowana is nuts! WOOO!!

Pet store told me it's a red. The pic does it no justice. It's a reddish-orange, but the flash makes it look silver.

I read that silver arrowanas can get to be 3 or 4 feet long. In that case you will really need that 400 :p.
Nice tank though, I agree that it looks small because of the fish. You could try to use the filter as a comparison, but it just ends up looking smaller too.
Your arrowana is beautiful; I really like the reddish hues.

dude thats just a silver with pink/red fins and yours has nice fins add more shrimps to his diet, witht he shell on and his colors will get bright. i hope the petstore didnt charge you for a red because they are thousands of dollars and illegal here. here is a picture of one <imgsrc="http://www.arofanatics.com/members/alvinkoh/imperialpalace/image13.jpg">

Yeah, I have to agree that arowana is certainly not an Asian breed. I have owned 2 "red" arowanas, which are not so expensive where I lived, (about $400USD), and the fins on that fish are certainly not characteristic. Nevertheless, I just wanted to remark on one of the other posts, which suggested to pair up your arowana with another in a 400g. Please do not do this, it is incredibly dangerous. The arowana are quite territorial among their species, and they will fight. A lot of people say that you can keep them together if you have 8+, but from my own experience this is not such a good idea either. These fish are my hobby, so I just feel inclined to give you some advice from my own dealings. The decision is completely yours, and rightfully so.

generally i thought people left their feeder goldfish in a quaratine tank until chow time. they make for an additional amonia load and increase the chance of spread disease. besides it takes a lot more meds to treat a 150g tank than it takes to treat a 20g.

besdies isnt there a chance of the arrow getting drop eye always looking down at the goldfish?

Okay, I'll take your word for it. The lady at the shop probably didn't know better, and neither did I. I only paid a 100 for him. There's another topic talking about tank size. Definitly gonna have to get a bigger tank or sell him.

My other tanks are currently occupied by other fish so I do not have a quarantine tank. Haven't had any problems with leaving them in there.

Heh..tell that to this guy...lol

He claims they do indeed fight, but not to the death. Though he does recommend when keeping arowanas together to add them all at the same time while they are still young around 4" or so. He also says that once they grow older, at around 12", they will stop fighting. Of course the tall plants also give them a sense of security as well as places to hide. It's a very cool tank indeed.

the fish in the last picture are jardinni's. they are an asian species of arrowana and are highly territorial. if you are going to put more than 1 in a tank you must do so early and all of the fish you want at once and of the same size. The fish you think is a red is actually a silver (which has some pinks in it's scales as igrows older) and is from south america. much less territorial and not near as aggressive to its own as the jardinni, that is as long as the new fish won't fit in it's mouth. but it will grow exceptionally long and needs at least a six foot tank, with no exception. the one i had before it ended up on the floor dried up from a long weekend away, was approching 4 feet (wish i had some pics, but no digital camera back then) and was fed only Omega one flake and black worms till about eight inches, and then omega one and canadian night crawlers. never any feeders. they are the #2 killer of fish next to poor h2o quality.
