Can anyone who is using or has used the Solaris line of lights offer me some help with intensity settings?

Since I installed the light about a week ago I have been running the Solar default program which mimics the day/night rotation of the Earth. although, I off-set the schedule by 4 hours so the daylight does not set with the sun around the time I get home every evening.

The default program has the day lights at 100% intensity, save the seven 15 minute cloud cover interruptions I have programmed. I am wondering if I should alter (lower) the daylight intensity? Does it really need to be 100% most of the time. It is really bright. I only have but one small coral (mushroom) in this new set-up at this time.

Thanks for the insight.

No, it definately does not need to be 100% intensity for a mushroom, you could probably cut it down to 50% and be fine for a mushroom. Your only going to grow algae faster having it up at 100% at this point with your tank, which isn't something you really want.

Thanks Ace - I figured this was the case, but wanted someone to support my speculation. It would be nice if PFO would publish a guide for light intensity to go along with their lights. It comes with a decent user's manual, but nothing regarding appropriate lighting levels for various species/genus of corals, etc.

Which PFO product do you have? Mine is the new I5 (72").

Thank again.

Happy New Year

I work at a LFS and the owner is big into Solaris lights. I have played with them all, G, H, I series. Owner has the I series at his house, put his older H series on a tank at the store which replaced a G series that was already there. With the G series we actually had to throw in 2 T5HOs with it because the G series wasn't good enough for even LPS corals. The I series is finally a decent light/brightness for a LED light and for the cost you pay.
