I have a tropical community tank developing: 1 betta, 1 platy, 5 harl. rasboras, & corys. There will be an angelfish in it too. I am looking for 1 or 2 species of peaceful dwarf cichlid to add as time goes on if there is room for everyone to have their own space. Can you suggest species, from your own experience, that work well in tropical communities? I want to keep species that do well as a single.
Thank you.

I am leaning towards a ram, have heard bolivians are hardy, but I am also looking at the golden eye. Without the spawning behavior (because I would only have one) are they peaceful?

It is a 36 G bowfront. The center water is pretty much empty now. The rasboras are usually at the top, the corys at the bottom. Only the platy and betta are all over swimming. The betta is very peaceful. He has been in a tank with buenos aires tetras and serpae tetras who were bad fin nippers, and he didn't have problems there either. If he is a problem for the angel, I can start another smaller tank for him, too. But I hope it doesn't come to that.

I have bolivian rams and agree they would do well in your set up. I am also a little leery of putting an angel and a betta together.....JMO

I agree on the angel and betta. Angelfish are cichlids and can be aggressive, if the angel has any size to it your betta may end up tattered or dead and if not your angel may end up dead...either way not a good situation.

A keyhole cichlid or 2 would be nice. These are very peaceful fish IME.
