Has anyone ever run across a ancistrus called a velvet ancistrus? Our LFS has one in stock, but we can find NOTHING on them, as to size they get, foods, compatibility, etc. Any info would be great, even if it's a web page we go to. Planet Catfish doesn't list them, tried that already.

Thanks for your help.

PS> Happy New Year everyone! Hope you had a great Christmas too.

Gonna try getting a decent pic of this one to post.

A picture would be helpful since Google is coming up nil. Maybe they're trying to sell a pleco with a parasitic infection as a new species.

I made a mistake, but still need info on this guy. Name is VIOLETT ancistrus - google still comes up with very little - keep getting directed to german sites about a red fire ancistrus instead. Anyways, from what we could figure out, the closest is a black fish with tiny white spots, and has white along edge of dorsal and tail fins - forget the latin name. Starts with H though - Baensch atlas has this name and a ? after it. Says in there that they are imported seldom, so hopefully this is the right one. We did pick him up though, as we need another smaller pleco for our frog tank, which is a 33g, so ancistrus plecos are a good fit for us. Also makes it easier to get a decent pic too, lol. Camera charging tonight, pic tomorrow.

Where do i find those to see pics?
