Hi all,

I'm glad to be here! I'm looking forward to reading the posts and although I'm a newbie to fish and aquariums, hopefully one day I'll contribute my knowledge to come. When you literally dive right in though, I'm getting a vibe you have to learn pretty quick. I had no idea how much was involved, but I love it!

About me...I live near Houston, work for a major satellite company and have become addicted to fish stores and major pet stores and anything fish or aquarium related. Hell, I can't even go into a Walmart without looking at the "aquatics department", even though all ten thousand Walmarts have the same five items. BTW, If anyone knows of some great mom and pop fish/equipment stores in or near Houston...please let me know! I know there is one near Kirby/59...but I don't get to that part of town often. All you ever see is Petco or PetSmart around here. Ugh! The good places are hidden.

As far as my tank, I'm still having difficulties but not with the fish...they are healthy, but with some issue after issue. First my new tank had a hairline crack and had to be drained and exchanged (all the fish made it 10 hours later!), then my filter continually overflowed and clogged and several plants died but I've solved those issues and found the cause so that I could prevent it. So, I need a online community to help me out here! lol!

My tank is a 26 Gallon Bowfront, changed the filter to a Rena SmartFilter 30 (4th filter to try...didn't like the Aqueon it came with, didn't like the Penguin, hated the LOUD Tetra "Whisper" and so far the seems to be doing well and is quiet. I've got live and artificial plants...just a mish mash, no real habitat going on here and I've got Gouramis, Tetras, Albino Cory Cats, Glass Catfish and 2 beautiful Golden Twinbar Platys'.

Glad to be here, look forward to chatting with you all in the forums and Happy New Year!

Welcome to AC!

I agree that Whisper filters are hardly that. The only hang on back filters I recommend are the Hagen Aquaclear series. I've used them as long as they've been available and they last pretty much forever.
