View Full Version : Cottong Thread or Fishing Line to Attach Mosses to Driftwood?
I've heard of both methods being used and I'm curious if one is preferred over the other.
My original intention was to use cotton thread but I've read several times that it might dissolve before the moss firmly attach themselves. The last thing I want to have to do is pull everything out a second time to reattach the moss that I thought was attached in the first place :shakehead:
I could use the fishing line, but would I have to remove it at some point? Again, don't want to start disturbing things after it's all settled in.
the moss should be attached well to the wood by the time the cotton thread breaks away and if you choose to use fishing line, you can leave it in there for as long as you would like.
I like to use cotton thread since its less noticeable

Some people even used super glue... but best to research if you go this route.
I have used sewing thread to attach my pelia to driftwood and its still on for a few years.

I like to use black cotton thread bcause by the time the cotton deteriorates to the point of breaking, the moss will have already gotten a firm hold to the wood or rock. On larger plants lke Anubias or Java Fern, I like to use rubber bands for the same reason as the cotton thread.

Great for Riccia since you don't want the string to deteriorate.

Fishing line, I have it available, and honestly, unless you are planting on a peice of driftwood all the way around, you just turn the driftwood around and cut the line. Besides, it grows over the fishing line quite quickly.

If I'm tying moss I use cotton thread, If Im tying riccia, I use fishing line because its more permanent. If Im tying anubias or java fern I use fishing line and cut it off when it has attached.
