Wow! Since the predation towards my loaches, I just got a third egg clutch with more eggs than any of the egg clutches they laid previously.:hypnotized: As I recall it, one female cana had an issue laying her eggs for the first time. She can stick only about 20-30 eggs but she has gradually improved judging by the arrangement of the eggs. I can tell who lays which clutch as I am familiar with how they arrange their eggs.lol And they had stopped laying eggs for the last two weeks. They usually lay one clutch a week.

The latest clutch has over 300 eggs. The previous ones are often only about 200. Now I have over 1000 eggs in total waiting to hatch!:nilly: I plan to feed some babies to my loaches so the loaches will squeak happily around.:D I do have more tanks coming but I don't want my canas to invade all my tanks so I'm not spreading them out in another tank. Just one and that's it. The extras will be fed from time to time to my loaches for protein load. I just don't want to be overwhelmed and I prefer my diffusas would be the ones to overwhelm me.

Psh. You're killing them off, and over here in the states, people are dying to have them. Lol. Better at least keep us updated with plenty of pictures. I want to watch some babies grow, even if it is through pictures.

No problemo. I have plenty of canas of all ages, from hatchlings to adults to take pics from. Some just hatched yesterday, today and tomorrow.lol

if you're going to keep the canas in their own tank, might as well see what a meaty diet can do as far as their egg-laying capacity. Could be just a coincidence that their egg-laying vastly improved after eating meat, but then again, that could be the reason :)

Though I guess to be sure you'd have to set up several tanks, place canas of similar age in each, and keep all parameters except diet the same and see how the egg laying goes. Bleh, way too much work just talking about it lol. Plus, you did say you only wanted one cana tank.

I don't mind trying the experiment between a group of canas fed with meat and another not fed. Will see if I can allow another tank or spare one just for this temporarily.lol As I have more juveniles than adults, I'll try the juveniles. They are more ravenous than the adults eating all the plants quickly. The adults spend most of their time trying to copulate around.:grinno:
