If I borrow media from an established tank and leave it in a tank full of MTS for a week or two, will the MTS sustain enough bacteria to not cause a mini cycle when I add shrimp? I know shrimp have really small bioloads.

As far as numbers, it's a freshly set up 5g tank with borrowed media. The tank has maybe 2 dozen MTS and there are 10 shrimp to be added.

I know it's best to mature a tank for a month or two before adding critters that like to feed on infusoria, and I haven't actually done anything but set up the tank and add MTS.

Haven't even ordered the shrimp yet, so don't clobber me if the answer is no :)

What type of filtration? Can you add more media when you add the shrimp? I sincerely doubt that 10 juvenile shrimp will cause too much of a ripple, especially if their are plants in the tank. I typically move media when I am adding the livestock, or the day I plan on adding the livestock. Any chance you could do a filter swaperoo when the shrimp arrive to be on the safe side?

yeah i can do that, but it looks like that project might have to take the backseat for awhile. My 10g sprung a leak sometime during the night and now I get to break down my entire stand to dry it all out. Surprisingly enough, no critters dead, but oh god is my back aching from scrambling about the entire night. Got class in 5 hours, too.
