A quick google search for "oklahoma fish club" found the Oklahoma Aquarium Association (http://okcaa.org/). While not focused on cichlids, a quick look at their forum indicates they're fairly active and may be worth checking out.

Yep i agree and if you get the chance to join a local club do so, i am involved with our local club and its great, at first you may feel awkward but once you get the chance to know everyone you will feel better..

Not everyone has access to a fish club..

I agree, Join a local fish club.

I know a lot of people in forums wonder why bother but its great. I know it took Neoprodigy a while to come to one but now he is a regular at CCA meetings.

A forum, like this.can be very educational and fun. Heck I belong to about 8 or them, but at a club meeting you also get to meet the people. Not only the club members but the speakers. Some of them are people that you only see in books or magazines if you don't go.
You also get access to fish at the meetings and supplies that both can be a lot cheaper than even on the internet.

I belong to 6 clubs and regularly go to 2 of them each month.

Just my thoughts.

I agree <hi Pat>, its well worth it to find a local club and become an active member. Its a great resource for information as well as supplies and networking.

I guess so the CCA is always in Maryland. lol

http://okcaa.org They may not be a Cichlid only club but they are a member club of the Midwest Cichlid Association. So you know there are some there.

You are right, the rest are
specialty clubs.

Oklahoma Betta Breeders Association (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OklahomaBettaBreedersAssociation/)
Oklahoma Killifish Association (http://okkillies.proboards101.com/)
Oklahoma Koi Society (http://www.oklakoi.org/)
Oklahoma Marine Aquarium Society (http://www.omas.org/)

Texhoma Aquatic Marine Aquarium Society (http://66.141.93.37:8080/TAMAS/TAMAS.asp)
I personally drive about 1.2 hours to get to any meetings. Thats really not too bad compaired to some people in other areas.
Like you said, it takes a lot of time to start a club of your own. Money's not too bad. Mostly time.
