I am so disturbed and distraught about my S. jurupari right now. When feeding my 55g this afternoon, I noticed my biggest fish, who's one of 3 Jurupari in my tank, has a huge chunk of flesh missing between his eyes. This wound is huge, and was not there yesterday at all. The edges are jagged, it's pure white with no blood, it almost looks like physical trauma.
Two days ago, I was sitting by the tank after the lights went out, when I heard a really violent splash in the tank. Freaked me out, since normally my tank is very peaceful. I turned on the lights in the room, and noticed the fish seemed kinda freaked out too. Yesterday, they all looked ok. Today, my biggest and most "aggressive" fish is now seriously hurt. Then again tonight after the lights went out in the tank, another violent splashing.....what the hell? Either there's some fighting going on, he ran into the lava rock, or maybe a stray electrical current?
I've got the 3 jurupari in the tank as well as 5 rainbowfish, 5 cories, 1 small pleco, and a couple of pearl danios. All the residents have been in the tank 18 months, except for the rainbowfish, which were added about 6 weeks ago. All parameters are stable-78F, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrates, 0 nitrites pH 7.2.
What do I do? I added extra StressCoat and extra salt. Should I raise the temperature? Should I quarantine him or would that be more stressful? It would take me a day or two to get my 10g up and running. Should I treat it with meds? I will try to get a pic up, it doesn't look like the HITH example with the red tiger at all. Doesn't look like gradual erosion at all, more something sharp/jagged sliced a chunk out of his face...... :-( TIA!
