The only loaches small enough to keep in a 25 gallon are kuhli loaches, and even that is kind of small for them.

I would strongly advise against the pakastani loach (aka yoyo). Way to small of a tank.

Y. sidthimunki would be another option.

IMO this tank is too small for them.

25's are very tall. I have one and I don't really like it; Kuhlis are the way to go.

Kuhlis, hillstreams or sids. Is this a tall tank? Kuhlis may be the best option in this case.

If you wanted to make a stream setup that had plenty of moving water you could put in hill stream loaches but they're not really a "traditional" looking loach. They have high o2 requirements as a result of coming from cooler fast moving streams. They're pretty cool though and don't get very big, definitely small enough for a 25.

IMO this tank is too small for them.

The tank has a 24" x 12" footprint...forgot that it's basically the same as stocking a taller 10 gallon...

Schistura savona are another possibilty. They stay under 2 inches & are very active. I haven't had them long but really enjoy them.

I see you live on Long Island, Frank's aquarium usually lists them. They're way less expensive than sids & would probably be better long term in a small tank.

Frank's also has several species of pangios (kuhlis), wish I lived closer.
