Planning to get all the supplies I need to start my 10 gallon (stock) soon and the only things I need before I begin filling up my tank is the lighting situation. I got a glass canopy so I'll have to buy a light fixture right? I've been looking at the prices for these fixtures and boy they rack up quite a big bill (along with those bulbs). What would be the most cost effective lighting set up I can use? I've read those DIY CFL set ups and they look pretty daunting (not really good with those kinds of things). I still have to buy a filter and substrate so I'm trying to keep costs down.
Okay now for plants, I'm thinking about anacharis, cabombas, maybe anubias/swords and i want a grass-like plant that would cover the bottom (okay not the whole bottom but some of it). Are those hardy choices (first time attempting planted)? I won't be doing CO2 but can get nutrients if needed. Should I buy Eco-complete or will regular subtrate be okay (if I do get eco, can I use it during the cycling process)? Oh and finally question, what kind of filter should I buy since from reading around, filters lower the CO2 from the surface agitation right? Is the type of filter going to significantly change anything?
Sorry for a lengthy post but I just want to be sure about all this stuff before I run out and begin buying everything.
