I think my fishy's a gonner...can you help? : ( [Archive]

So, my rainbow shark usually spends most of his time in his rock. But lately (for the past few days) he's been outside of it, which is really strange. He's mostly been at the very top of the water which is extra strange considering how, if he does come out of the rock, he's always at the bottom. Also, today he started sitting at the bottom of the tank upside down. And just before I went to post this I saw him lying at the bottom of the tank on the ground. :confused: He's still breathing and stuff, just lying there, randomly. Then, he'll swim around for a little bit and go to the top, then go to the bottom and lay upside down. And repeat the cycle.

I'm afraid he's a gonner. I'm sad. But I was wondering if you guys knew what was wrong with him or if there was anything I could do to help?

Do you have a good liquid test kit?

If so, post your ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte readings.

If not, get one, and do 15% water changes every 8-12 hours.

keep the water level low to increase surface agitation.
