so, my pair haven't been laying eggs in awhile. In fact the female of the pair use to chase this blue leopard. now this blue leopard chases the male of the pair.

Im not sure if they are going into a 3 way relationship or one of the stressing someone, but they haven't laid eggs in awhile. The female belly does look big but no eggs in weeks.

I tried different variables to try to stimulate them, large water change, increasing heat, everything found on simplydiscus but no eggs. HMM

I'm afraid the female (which is 2x the size ofthe male) is getting too old and will die soon. yesterday she started to struggle while swimming losing equilibrium after eating - but then this morning and now she's swimming normal. HMM...

I'm just guessing, since no one else has replied, could it be an infection causing the swimming problem and/or large tummy? How old is she?

What are they eating? Have you tried a diet shift? I don't think she;ll die. She is still a bit on the young side.

I like to drop the temp to like 80-82 as well as a super clean tank (90% water change, clean filters, scrubbed tank, etc). Leading up to this, feed them a little bit extra (or an extra feeding per day). If they are going to spawn, they will do it within a few days after all this. If nothing still, there are still a few options. Let us know what happens.

HMM, I tried several things listed above, Droped temp - nothing. I did massive 50% water change, they seem happier no more swimming in odd behaviors now.

I added extra magnum canister to make water extra cleaner - no egg.

I then boosted temp to 86 - no egg.

After all this, I noticed one thing, my discus are very mean now. My pair gets chased around by one of the younger discus. This leopard (FIsh A) chases the same sized leopard (male of the pair)(Fish B). The female (Fish C) of the pair then chases that Leopard (fish A). Its like playing tag. NO signs of wounds but lost 2 harlequin rasboras this week from discus biting them, which eventually led to death and a feast.

I removed all my rasboras to my 40g breeder (Ram + rainbow tank).

I'm thinking it could be the aggresion between them thats casuing them not to spawn?

Might be connected to the winter season.I`m sure some do spawn in tanks in winter.

Put the pair in their own tank and follow all of the above advice. Maybe there is just too much distraction in your tank.

There are still a coup[le of things you have not tried yet.

1 Add some RO or distilled water at each water change let the temp drop and let the heaters warm the water this simulates a rain fall this should work.

2 add some black water tonic to the water this can also promote spawning.

your female is not to old yet shew has lots of spawning left she may change partners if she thinks the other male can protect her eggs better than her curent partner.

I have had a male change partners he is now on his third female. Hes the dog of the tank but I have at least found out who the females are !
