Will My Pleco Change Color?

Hey guys,

I just got a new Bushy Nose Pleco because my old one died after a particularly nasty cold front that moved in while I was gone for the weekend.

Anyway, after I got him home, I saw that he has some lighter "stripes" where his color is just a bit lighter over some portions of his body. This makes him look less clean and in my opinion shabby and just plain bad. I was wondering if I can expect his color to change now that he's in my tank that has dark brown substrate and dark logs; quite a bit darker than his light areas.

Thanks.

Sorry, I can't post a pic, my digital camera broke recently.

water params:
Nitrate ~10ppm (20% water change today)
Nitrite 0ppm
Hardness (GH) 150ppm
Chlorine 0ppm
Alkalinity (KH) ~200ppm
pH 7.6-7.8

20 long tank w/ 2 gold barbs (2"), 1 Blue Gourami, 3 Zebra Danios, 2 Bloodfin Tetras

Here's a pic online that sort of looks like mine with the light discolorations:

Plecos have color shifts depending on the environment and moods.:)

Thanks, my previous pleco was a consistent dark brown with the white spots and he looked so great. So sad to see him go. I'm hoping this pleco will change color an be more uniform brown.

:iagree: Brown BN plecos get a mottled (light and dark blotches) coloration if you move them or stress them or startle them when the lights come on, etc. His rich brown color should return when he settles in a bit more.

That's exactly what I was wondering! Thanks a lot for the answers!
