I'm going to be using my 10G as a qurantine tank for my new 90G and was wondering how many fish I can transfer to the 90G each time? My initial thoughts were to bring my 10G now stocked with 2 tetras and a danio up to 6-8 fish and transfer that many over at the end of each qt period. The 90 G is going to be a fully planted tank with C02. Can a 90 gallon support adding that many fish each tme without affecting the chemistry too much?

If there is a thread on the forum that discusses this, please let me know. I've spent an hour searching the forums so I did not have to ask a question that I figured had been asked 100's of times before, but I couldn't find anything.

ya the 6-8 fish will have less an impact on the big tank than each fish will in the ten... but the ten will be easyer to keep the byproducts undercontrol...

the 90 gal should be ok with that... just keep in mind that the larger the tank the longer it takes to balance out. part of that is because there is space for more fish so we put more fish in and if you space the new arivals out more takes longer

so be patient and do your regular water changes like you have a full fish load and things will be set up to reach that balance when you have all your fish into the 90

one thing to check on is each addition changes the nutrients getting into the tank unless you don't feed anymore than you already are... so keep a monitor on your plant fert levels while you are doing this and when the fish are all in you can get a feel for where the balence has shifted to

edit: note to self read first post:rolleyes: :D
