Maintaining a tall tank, I don't see it till I'm done!

How do those of you who have tall tanks maintain them? I'm talking about the physical part of trimming leaves and scraping algae off the sides? I have a 15 tall and I'm an average sized person(5'5.5"), but I'm up to my armpits and on a stepstool when doing anything physical in the tank. Plus I hate that I can't really see what I'm doing until I get done and the debris has settled a bit. Then I notice all the bits I missed on the glass while trying to avoid hacking my plants with the scraper. When I have the top open the lights are also not shining into the tank since they are in the lid, so I use a directional lamp sometimes.
Are there any tools that would help me? I'm ~this~ close to trying algone or something.

I use chopsticks sometimes while planting.. my 37 high is pretty tall and sometimes when I reach in, my boob goes in too..

Long tools, a ladder and maybe a helper? There are some long handled razor scrapers and pad scrapers that might help you. I have a 110 tall that is kind of tough to work in. Luckily I don't have any real bad issues with the glass, so the scraping is not required. Just an ocassional wipe down. Sorry, I cant recommend a fix all for ya!

There's algae scrapers on a stick you can buy....

Have you tried the handy-dandy mag float? It's the coolest thing to hit the aquarium industry since MG

I have a scraper on a long stick, but the stick part can be kinda hard on my plants(I have tall plants). The mag float looks neat - does anyone know if it scrapes really well? I get the tough stuff(staghorn...green spot) cause my tank is really old.

It's just about impossible for me to get to the back corner of my tank. The tank is 24" deep and the rim is probably about 55"+ off the floor. I use a step stool to get to some of the more remote areas and I'm 6' tall!
