Thats one of the main reasons why I didn't make mine a cichlid tank, I wanted to have a lot of fish. It's up to you, if thats the way you feel, then change it, do whatever makes you happy.

there are small cichlids that are more comunity friendly like angelfish and most of the small/dwarf cichlids... some of the anabatoids are more peacfull than others and I find them to be interesting fish.
it all depends on what size fish you want to keep... angel fish + small neons usually = lunch but are fine with rams or dwarf gouramis
or you can go with a whole cloud of ember tetras:D they only get to about an inch
so what are your thoughts?

i have a communtiy tank and have thought of going to cichlid tank i'm not sure though cause i dont like the limitations- but heres some thoughts - it depepnds on what type of community tank you want - i mean you can go with livebearers (platies, swordtails, mollies ) for lots of color - or try a small school of tetras -cory cats are always great for the community tank - or try fish that are still peaceful but semi-aggresive like gouramies, maybe pictus cats, loaches etc - i woul prob go with some angel fish, pictus, cories, gouramies, maybe some schooling tetras or something look around and see what you think will be interesting

No, flourite is one of the best plant substrates there is. Not a scam at all.
we just changed out 90 from a cicilid to freshwater because ciclids are lil jerks its no fun to watch 4 fish chase each other back to their litle hiding spots all the time. i prefet a happy tank
I would plan my community tank of that size around a certain fish. Forinstance a couple of dwarf gouramis would make a nice start. Then add a large school of tetras and a large school of bottom feeders like dwarf cories. Add lots of plants and you are a having fun.
The problem with tetras (and I love them) is that if you try and have a couple of different schools they tend to end up schooling together anyway and it just looks messy, IMO.
