Is it advisable to use a RODI unit to make your water for a fresh water tank or is that just for saltwater tanks. My TDS for my water out of the tap is 138.

I've always just used conditioned tap water, and our water here is pretty hard. I don't know the TDS though so I can't really make a comparison to yours.

TDS is not a very usefull measurement but 138 is not out of line. More important would be the alkalinity. The problem with RO is you have to rebuild it every time you need to do a water change.

I would use conditioned tap water until you have a specific reason not to. I would rather adapt my tank to my water supply than to addapt my water supply to my tank.

I agree!

My tap water is about 170 tds ph 7.6 and is Ok for amost all freshwater fish.AS long as the Ph remains stable yours should be ok out of the tap.

Tap water contains minerals that are good for fw fish, i think that in RO water these are removed as required mineral contents come from the salt and marine suppliments that are added.

i would love to have some water like that.
