I would like to know what everyones first FW fish was, either bought or given or however you got it.

My first fish was a little Texas Cichlid.

Hopefully Slipknottin will not delete or close this controversial post.

my first fish were convicts.

i seriously doubt slip will lock it unless you start discussing recipes for said fish, and/or how it tasted when you ate it. slip is pretty lenient generally, so if your thread was locked by him i'm sure it was a bit carried away, he rarely moderates anything.

My first fish was probably Trout, fried with a dash of lemon pepper and a side of hush puppies.

Largemouth Bass I got when it was about 1" from a pond stocker. Kept it until it out-grew a 20gal., then let it go in our pond.

A 3 spot gourami.... Whom unfortunately got himself stuck in a sunken ship decor and cut his entire tail off! Still recovering in the hospital tank, only 20% of it grew back after 3 weeks of Melafix treatment. I think I'll put him back into the main tank after this week since his recovery seemed to have stopped or slowed right now.

the first fish that we had was a gold fish that didn't last too long in the hot summers of the south, but I don't even remember if I fed the fish or if it was more my moms... she was the one that got it...... any way the first fish I can really claim as mine was some serpea tetras

3 Koi. I know. It was my mom's fault- I wanted a little pond in my garden in the backyard...no fish. My mom convinced me that I MUST have fish in it. Neither one of us knew jack about fish, so we went to Petsmart for advice:eek: . The lady there told us about how the Japanese like to put 3 Koi in and then when two die, the one left is lucky(I know, I know). My mom insisted! BTW, I was 30 at the time, I should've been able to resist her! Well, I decided after about a week that I'd try to learn a little about these cute little fishies and WHOA, they get huge & wouldn't last in my garden pond (in Michigan) through the winter. SOOOOO, I got a 55 along w/ a Magnum 350 for like 30 bucks & kept them inside for the winter. I decided I liked fish after all & the rest is history. My hubby always says that my mom likes to create work for him & a serious crimp in the wallet. What moron told me that fish were a nice cheap hobby...;)

Mine was a goldfish I got from the store when I was a lot younger and less experienced. It lived in the bowl for a little while :(.
I'm glad the next thing I got was a book :).

First tank I can recall: 2 angels, 2 kuhli loaches, 3 black mollies, 1 albino redtail shark, 1 rainbow shark, 1 red tail black shark, and a banjo cat. Nightmare--it was a divided 10, with a UGF. The tank was torn completely down and refilled with fresh water about once every 2 months, with top offs as needed to keep the water level close to the top.

I was all of about 8 at the time, and don't recall getting advice from anyone. Purchased the fish from The Sherman Tank on 6th Avenue in Denver--the place that's now a strip joint.

Sigh--trying to earn enough good karma to avoid going to fish hell.

I had one of those carnival goldfish for like two years. But then my cat ate it...try explaining that to a little kid.
