Only two months into it and I'm already planning out my next tank... it will be a simple lightly planted Betta tank (with low-light easy to grow plants). I wanted a tank between 4 and 6 gallons, that can sit on one of the end tables in the living room. I have scoured the internet and I think I like the Eclipse 6. Anyone have any experience with these? Specifically, anyone have a Betta in one of these? I read somewhere that the filter system agitates the water too much for a Betta. Is this going to cause a problem?
(If there is a Betta set-up thread somewhere, I'd appreciate if someone could let me know.)
Thanks in advance.

Well im a beginner myself but I'll try at least to help! I have a 12g eclipse and I am also looking into the 6g for the exact same reasons as you! I want a betta with low light plants & I have heard the very same things about too much water agitation. All I can say is in my 12 the agitation really isnt as bad as I had expected. It gives a good current but I dont think anything strong enough to stress a betta. It could be totally different in a smaller version so I'm not really too sure. I would also like to see what others have to say about this! Good luck with your tank!!

Hi Juice. Thanks for the reply. Looks like you and me may be on our own on this one :) Walmart has the best price btw.
Question on your Eclipse 12 -- is there a hole on the lid somewhere that allows for a heater? The lid looks like a solid one piece in the photos. I can't tell if there is a hole to allow for a heater cord.

the 6 eclipse is awesome...you would just need some sponge or even pillow polyester to put in the filter to slow the water outake down..otherwise its a great tank for the handsome betta
I have had an Eclipse 6 for well over a year (it's my litte girls tank) and it is a great little tank.
On Saturday I purchased a new bulb on Saturday AquaGlo it's only 8 watts 15,000k but it does give the 3 guppies and a Mickey Mouse platy in the tank unbelieveable color.
I also put in a Water Sprite and Dwarf Baby Tears, spur of the moment, didn't research light requirements. The water sprite is doing extremely well the Dwarf is hanging in there.
Hope this helps

Eclipse tanks work great, but I do agree that the water flow is way to much for a betta. I would put extra ornaments, plants etc in the corner farthest away from the outlet to provide a low flow spot in the aquarium for the betta. I've done this in a 10 gallon tank which has a bio wheel filter on it and the betta will go to the low flow area when he wants to rest, but actually comes out and will swim upstream deliberately and then float back to the other end of the tank. It's rather fun to watch. In a perfect world their would be a perfect solution, but other than getting a 10 gallon with undergravel filters I think the eclipse would be a great tank. I have the 3 gallon version of the eclipse, but there just wasn't enough room to create a low flow area for the betta so he got upgraded.

On the back of the hoods on the eclipse' there is a square cut out to fit your cords for heater, light, filter etc. I was also confused about that until i got it home because it doesnt say anything about it on the box! I also will getting mine from walmart.com because they dont carry them in-store here :(

Not to hijack the thread but I wasnt aware that you could purchase bulbls for the Eclipse tanks from anyone other than Eclipse. Can you give me more details on the bulb you puchased? Like where you purchased it and what its exact description is? By the way I have had bettas in a 3 and a 6 Eclipse with no issues.

I'm new at this but I've been doing a lot of research to get ready to getting back into the aquarium hobby. I believe that the Eclipse T5 8-watt 12" bulb has a color temperature of around 5,600K which is a daylight spectrum that includes the red and blue wavelengths needed by plants for photosynthesis. There are other bulbs out there, such as by Coralife which has a Colormax bulb that emits in the 350-750 nanometer wavelength which the company says enhances colors. It claims it simulates the "sun at high noon with a slight cloud haze." They also have a Day-Max bulb. I think these two are at a higher color temp than the Eclipse.

I've owned an Eclipse 6 and just recently bought an Eclipse 3. I have a beta in my 3 gallon eclipse and he loves it. so much better than his lil cup he lived in at the store lol.
You really cant beat the eclipse tanks for fairly inexpensive complete small tanks.

it's good that your giving your betta 6 gallons instead of 1.5, like me, lol. But if the world was filled of mes, it would be cracked in half before the end of the day =D
