not sure my boy is in 3rd grade and i didn't know about it till they were in school today, and he is very sensitive he cries st the animals shelter commercial about the homeless animals, so i hate to bring this up to him, he's like mom have love for everything,..
i had a bad feeling last night, my 5 Pyrenees were wailing last night never like that before, couldn't figure out what was going on, perhaps they knew something i didn't,... they love and protect children,..
my shyest one was doing the most carrying on,..make you wonder,..they act like the dog police,.. or any animal police..

There was recently a tragic death in our school system and the school worked very hard to have counselors and such in place to help those children who were friends and acquaintances as well as for a time for the kids to hear about the news and discuss it in safe place. I hope your district does something similar.

yes they are good about this,
but the article said she just started second grade, so i think she was just moved to the caregivers place from elsewhere

poor girl had a short and less than good life,..

I'd blame the adult that was with the girl if he let a 7-8 year old walk by an agressive dog on a long chain without giving it a second thought. Very sad for the girl. I'm a little sad for the dog, too, being neglected and trained to act that way until it struck out and caused something tragic, then to be put down.

DP, who says the dog was agressive? Who knows what the girl did to provoke an attack at that moment or even in the past. Sadly no one will know as there are no witnesses other than the dog.

Airing on the side of caution so I don't get flamed for "sticking up for the murderous dog"... I see your point though, children do indeed like to provoke animals.

the little girl was new here i assume from a broken home and was new to the dog I'm sure , the school sent a note home stating that she was only started school here 2week ago,.. so if they were her guardians then I'd guess the mother wasn't allowed custody or something to the affect from what the report says,

not sure why they didn't kill the dog there and then,.. aggressive or not once draws blood never to trust again,.. but they took the dog clear to Lawrence county, we are in beaver county, but i assume he was the only one that could handle the dog,.. experience wise and shelter wise,..

as i find out more I'll post more,.. she was just new here and and all i can guess is her life was worse from where she came from until last night,.. now she is at peace,..

well tonight they showed a pic of the dog, and surprise it was a rotti mix looked just like one but not as beefy,

heck it didn't even look like an adult. looked puppy like in the face,...

I'm not sure what the breeders had done the the rotti but they really messed it up bad,...
just like they messed up the Arabian horses, they made them all syco,..

even though there are a few left that are still good most are ruined,... even mix breed ones

not sure if they are going to charge the gardians yet

I blame the owner(s) of the dog and/or any adults that were supposed to be looking out for the girl's welfare.

A senseless loss of life that was likely preventable.

This was so preventable it's sick. I would never, ever even allow my 7yo niece anywhere by herself, and from what I heard this was after dark.
Most attacks on children by dogs are preventable, by both the parents of the child and the dog's owner. If they knew the dog was dangerous it should have been in a kennel, not an open-to-everyone chain.
Someone posted on one of the stories that they knew the owners and that the dog was sweet and would NEVER hurt anyone. So obviously it was framed O_o
None of my dogs have shown aggression towards children, but I would never, ever let a kid be alone near one of them, they are animals.
I could rant forever, because of the senseless death of an innocent child, and because the owners of the dog in question are what give these breeds their bad reputation. Dogs are pack animals, being chained away from family and other dogs screams that you want your dog to be unpredictable.

Please don't start a rottie bashing, really, there are enough comments like that on the stories. There is nothing wrong with that breed, a friend of mine has one about 150lbs who is much, much sweeter than their basset mix. Their rotten child climbs all over her, yanks her ears and plays with his toys on her, she is able to be trust off-lead on a dog beach, whereas the basset has to be kept close on a leash, muzzled.
Yes, they are great guard dogs, but the one who killed that poor baby was likely unsocialized and probably lived on that chain, if it was out in the cold the night it killed the girl.
And actually, that looks like a thin American Rottweiler. Not a mix..

I'm done ranting, I swear :irked:

What a horrible tragedy. There's no point in pointing fingers at who is to blame. I'm certain a lot of bad choices and misunderstandings were involved. Many dogs are not properly socialized with children and are often afraid of them. Many children are not taught the proper way of interacting with animals. It's a problem with miscommunication on both ends. I feel so much for her mother and the people who owned the farm. I'm certain they never thought this kind of thing could happen. All animals can be unpredictable no matter the breed or species. No one really knows what happened since no one was watching the child. How horrible

from what i can tell just by reading and looking at the dog ,

i'd say that the dog was over friendly and wasn't used to children and played with her like a toy and she didn't make it,. dog will sometimes think that a puffy coat and the like its just a play thing and do what they do to a chew toy,
i know it sad and sick but there are 2 ways at least that this horrible thing can happen,, both end bad
but as said earlier,

the child was new to both dog and guardians, and was only lived in our town a few weeks,..

The worst part now of so many other bad things that mother is going through. My heart really goes out to her. The more we learn about this tragedy, the sadder it gets.
