View Full Version : Homemade Tank Stand
I was thinking about making a stand that most of my lfs use.
concrete cylinder blocks and 2"x6"
I was wondering if anyone uses/used this type of set up and how well it worked for you?
Thanks,
JB

2X6 is overkill unless you like the look. 2X4 is more than adequate. Be sure that you build wood on wood, meaning don't screw a leg in to the side of a support beam. The leg should be mounted under the support beam (2x4) and braced accordingly.

Even 2x4's are overkill..
what size is the tank?

Is you 125 on less than 2x4? I built my 150 on 2x4, but would never think to consider less than that? Wow!

I built the stand and canopy on my 125.
There are no 2x4's, 4x4's or similar.
I did use some 1x4's for trimming the stand.
For the most part is is made of 3/4" cabinet grade Oak plywood.
there is some 1/2" BC plywood in there..
It could have been made from Exterior grade CDX, and been plenty strong enough to hold the tank.

Ahhh... OK. I guess I was thinking a bit more on the cheap. I how much did all that oak cost?? I spent less than $100 for the whole thing including paint. It was quite a project, but came together nicely and way cheaper than buying a stand outright.

Very nice build! How does that slide out support a 10 gallon tank? Doesn't it weigh close to 100lbs? Very nice stand... I like the screen doors too. Unique.

the drawer is rated at 160#.
the doors are galvanized steel swirled with a grinder and sprayed with 3 coats of clear acrylic..
I am going extremely cheap.
4 concrete cinder blocks 8*12*16
2 pieces of Aspen Pine 3/4"*16*36
It's for a 30 gallon tank
i'm going to put 2 cinder blocks app 12-16" apart lay a piece of wood down on them place the remaining cinder blocks down on top of the wood same distance apart and then place the last piece of wood on top and then the tank.
I may upgrade to a thicker piece of wood if necessary,
