I'm thinking about breeding a small number of Olive Nerites just to expand the number I have without having to buy more of them. I know they scatter eggs all around (infertile since they're in freshwater).. and to breed, they need brackish conditions. And.. that I'll have to transition them slowly with added salt.

Does anyone have more specific information to share about this? Or a handy link that would tell me more about doing this?

Thanks.

Nerites are extrememly difficult to breed. They have a larval stage and require planktonic or smaller foods. Chance of them surviving in aquarium conditions to actually become snails are slim. There are a few of us that are gonna give it a shot, but we are talking multiple tank setups and a lot of patience and time spent.

I can not say that there is anyone that you can say 100% has done it before. There are people who claim to but they can't back their stories with proof.

Thank you, Sounguru. I knew it would be tricky - just not how much. So I'll do a lot more research on this before deciding. And wait until I have some real time to devote to them. I already know about growing phytoplankton from a starter culture.. that part is okay. But the rest sounds pretty daunting.

I appreciate the info. Thanks, again.

OMG, that's fascinating. There's so much good info documented in that thread, I had to save the whole thing.

Thank you so much, Lupin.

I wonder what new developments there have been since his last post. I wish this was in a blog so I wouldn't have to sift through all the thread hijackers lol
