the top rim of my tank is leaking, i was wondering if there was a way to fix it while the fish are still in the tank. Thanks for the help.

Just lower the water level, dry the area and be carefull with the silicon when fixing it..

When I do this can I just put silicon in the trim piece and then put it back on the tank.

I would suggest trying to figure out why it is leaking first. Is it just an old tank that needs to be resiliconed or is it a result of being on an unlevel surface or something of that nature. good luck :thm:

Tank is level as it is going to get, It is just an old tank. The next question is how do I get the top off?

What do you mean how do you get the top off?
You just take it off? Haha

I would just run a bead of silicon around the inside of the rim where it meets the glass. Don't bother trying to remove the rim unless you're prepared to break it. I've removed and replaced a rim before and don't plan on doing it ever again.

sounds to me like you just got the water level too high

I agree with most of the above. I had to re-silicone my old 40 gallon tank. It was a chore, but held up nicely. Yes, let the water evaporate a little....then wipe it clean and dry...use some silicone and try to keep it neat as it gets sticky and tacky the longer you play with it. Before you do that...check to see if you have any old silicone to cut away. Try to find the true leak as it will tell you what you're dealing with. Try not to take the rim off....tank will break...I've seen it done. Otherwise....just don't fill it as much. Good luck!

Lower the water level, put some silicone on your finger and run it under where you think the leak is. Wait a full day or 2 and refill the tank.
