Hi all, I have recently got my 1st tropical aquarium. I had a bit of a bad start as I lost a few fish, which I now believe was through my haste to get the tank up and running!!
I now have a healthy tank and 3 remaining fish which seem to be doing fine. I also have a beautiful yellow apple snail but I now seem to have 4 baby snails in the tank. They started off really small and have now grown a bit. They are kind of gold with black markings and I'm not sure if they are baby apple snails and my big snail is a Mum or if they have come in on a plant?
Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Do you have pics of the snails?

Well, apple snails are one of the few snails that have to have two, one of each gender, to reproduce. So if you have just one, it seems unlikely that it would be baby apple snails. They also lay fairly noticeable egg clutches above the waterline, and if you haven't seen one of those, it seems more likely that these are unrelated tagalongs. They could still be apple snails, though, or another kind of snail, and pictures would help us identify them for you.

Also, welcome, both to the forum and to the hobby!

Hi there< i don't as yet....have just tried taking one with my phone but they are so small and move around quite quick that it was useless!
I will try again...thanks!

Female apple snails can store sperm for months after exposure to the males so they could be apple snails assuming the OP never noticed an egg clutch around. We sometimes miss out an egg clutch.lol

I can't get a decent photo of them as they are so small!!! Might have to wait til they are bigger, I have just found a new one too which is tiny. I'm beginning to think they can@t be from my apple snail especially as there's a new one. Where could they have come from, could they have come in on a plant?
They have a kind of gold colour with black markings and they move pretty fast...any ideas anyone??

Its very likely either eggs or a snail hitchiked in with your plants.
